MoMA P.S.1 Young Architects Competition

Courtesy of: PARA-Project

CASE provided geometric rationalization and automation for PARA on their finalist entry for this renowned competition to construct a temporary installation in the courtyard of MoMA PS1 during their annual summer program, Warm Up. PARA's proposal, entitled Stimulator, aimed to turn excess into resource by proposing an installation of stacked lumber, bundled together with nylon straps and using no mechanical fasteners, which would allow for the lumber to be reused. In order to eliminate material waste from onsite cutting, CASE was brought in to write a custom automation tool that would insure that all pieces of lumber were of nominal lengths. This tool enabled PARA to make iterative design changes, while quickly producing an accurate construction model that was used for documentation, estimating and structural analysis.
