As an early adopter of BIM, SOM has designed and delivered numerous complex, high-profile projects using the approach. In an effort to study their progress to date and update their standards and content based on lessons from completed projects, SOM’s Digital Design Group commissioned CASE to set out a BIM content strategy that would transition the office from an early adopter to a comprehensive user. Through both qualitative and quantitative analysis of past projects, a new set of BIM standards were devised, as well as a new library of customized SOM BIM content. This effort enabled designers and technical specialists to build upon past knowledge, minimizing rework and focusing their time on solving new design challenges.
