As part of a comprehensive BIM curriculum intended to expose students and educators to a full range of topics from early conceptual design to Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Autodesk commissioned CASE to author a unit focused on Performance-Based Conceptual Design. CASE developed a sequence of exercises that focus on using feedback from early-stage environmental analysis as part of an iterative and informed design process. The lessons were built upon the design of an academic campus for a waterfront site in San Diego, CA, giving students a series of real world goals to address using this process. The curriculum included an Instructor Guide that highlights essential concepts and learning goals and is accompanied by comprehensive teaching tools: a student workbook, instructional videos and datasets. This curriculum has become an essential part of Autodesk’s efforts to expose academic institutions to the value of BIM as an integral part of the design process.
