Environmental Technology Class at Parsons
Alas, summer is coming to an end and we're gearing up for the Fall, which means a lot of teaching and workshops. Among other things, I'll be co-teaching the Environmental Technology course at Parsons School of Constructed Environments this Fall with Emilie Hagen and Wendy Meguro of Atelier Ten.
Emilie and Wendy taught the class last Fall for the first time for the MArch program. This year, the class will be jointly held between the MArch and the brand new MFA Interior Design program and I'll be leading the Interiors section. From the course description: "This course explores the design of comfortable, resource-efficient buildings, with an emphasis on building physics, environmentally sustainable design, and systems integration."
The focus of the Interiors section will be on the impact of materials on the thermal, acoustical, lighting, and indoor air qualities of a space. I will also focus on how these concerns can be better integrated into the design process by considering senses other than the optical and by applying both qualitative and quantitative metrics to determine their effectiveness.
I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge of this material through a rich interaction with the students, Emilie and Wendy.
